1) band outing
venue: Lot Ona Shaw Cineplex, East Coast Park.
date: 9 dec 2008
time: 10.15am to 7.30pm

yupp the band outing will be held on 9th Dec 2008. i cannot go so Cheow lin will take charge that day. you all can choose to go to the cinema and the BBQ or EITHER ONE. so that means you can DON't go for the movie. movie you all will need to pay $6 for it. REPLY IN THE SMS WHICH ONE YOU ARE GOING.OR BOTH. more information will be given in the consent form in which i will be giving you tomorrow. tomorrow very important because you all will need to meet me at CCK CONTROL STATION AT 5.45PM SHARP so that i can distribute the consent form to you all. PLEASE ALSO TELL ME IF YOU CANT GO SO THAT I CAN MAKE NECESSARY ARRANGEMENT TO MEET YOU OR ASK YOUR FRIENDS TO TAKE AN EXTRA ONE FOR YOU. the $6 for the movie, you all will PASS it to cheow lin on the day of the outing in the morning when you all meet her.ok?consent forms i will tell you the details tmr.TELL ME WHETHER YOU ARE GOING FOR THE BBQ AND MOVIE LATEST BY21NOV.try to go for the movie screening because the movie will only be screened when there are 150 people min. present. there will be band practice during the holidays during december. details are at the top and you all are required to BE PRESENT for the practices because YOU ALL WILL NEED TO PRACTICE TO PLAY THE SCHOOL SONG WHICH YOU ALL WILL BE PERFORMING IN THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. so we will be performing in the first day 2nd Jan 2009 at the new campus. details will be confirmed with you all during your band practices. on 10 and 11 of dec practice i cannot be present so cheow lin will take charge.and I WILL NEED TO KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN/CANNOT GO FOR THE PRACTICE LATEST BY 26 NOV. this performance will involve all the 2008 sec ones to threes. (2009 sec twos to fours)

3) band tee shirt

we will have a band tee shirt made for band practices. the price of the tee shirt will be USED IN THE FIRAT DAY OF SCHOOL WHICH WE ARE PERFORMING SO PLEAE TELL ME YOUR TEE SHIRT SIZES BY 26 NOV. sizes available are XS,S,M,L,XL,XXL and so on. and the tee shirt will be around $12 plus minus so those who are in financial assistance and not able to afford please approach me so that i can make it known to the band leaders.the money for the tee shirt MUST BE GIVEN TO THE ASL (CHEOWLIN) BY THE FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE. 10 DEC. AMOUNT I REPEAT IS $12 PLUS MINUS.

guys the band outing will be at 9 Nov 2008. sorry im afraid i cant go because the function head went to book the theatre and BBQ pit for 9 nov, not the dates i mentioned earlier so im sorry. have great fun there!

and tmr's the packing of instruments. i hope you all have really been awaken* by me because you all REALLY need to BUCK UP. you want to know the truth? ok here's it. our music sucks. my music sucks too. so to improve, we have to practice. practice and practice. since you all cant borrow your instruments home, practice your fingerings. woodwinds players need to be very precise in fingerings. if you can spend your little bit of holiday time to practice, im sure you will only need to deal with your tone and balance. so please, practice.

learn to memorise your Japanese warm-ups, and the WHOLE of your basic band training warm-up. also scales. i want the sec 1s at least to be able to play Bb, Eb, C, F, and Ab. as in at least know the fingerings.

sry to throw last-minute tasks at you but im sure you all can do it! and also if wanna consult any of the seniors, can do so.

HAHA. since there're no practices for the holidays. how about a section outing? great chance to bond right? (since you guys will not be seeing me for so long. YOU ALL WILL MISS ME RIGHT!)

ATTENTION FLAUTISTS!!!

there will be a band outing either in last week of November or first week of December. it will be a WHOLE DAY outing and everyone is encouraged to go. and strongly encouraged by me :D

1) ok so first vote for the days you r free. the outing will be either on 27 nov, 1,2 or 3 of Dec. so vote for one day.

details of the outing

band members are allowed to come in home clothes and we will first meet in cck mall in sections, and so the sl (which is me)will pick a place to gather all the flautist and so on. after that after all the section have gathered, there will be a movie theatre booked for the band members and we will go there for a movie screening! and there will also be a surprise for you all xD

2) each member is supposed to pay $6 for the movie.

after that we will be free for our lunch and we will take bus to either east coast or something like that. and we will have a few hours of time free by ourselves. and at night we will have a BBQ or something like that.

3) each section will need to pay $10 for rental of BBQ pit so is it okay if i take it from section fund?

all the 1) 2) and 3) de replys you all must SMS me latest by 5 NOV. like just tell me which day you free and if you mind paying the $6.

alumni are also welcomed to come!! that means all the sec 4s taking o-levels now and those who have graduated. i will sms yuen see personally to ask her and they will only need to pay the $6 to me on the actual day of the outing.

and if i dun receive a reply by 5 NOV, this only shows that you have not been reading the blog so what for i continue to post in it? and thanks to those who have seen this (:

lol i reset the password le is the same one i told you all cause i forgot the old one (: haha i very pro rite ok now telling you all something serious.

even though yesterday was the last band practice for the year 2008 , i want all of you to reflect on what have you done for band the whole year long. The effort we've put in for band competition and other small performances. this year might hold sad memories for us, but the most important thing is that we believe in ourselves and move on together. lets strive together towards 2010 and trash the other bands ok ? xD

MUSIC

i hope that you all will practice your fingerings during the holidays and don't use (i didn't borrow my flute home) as an excuse not to practice. just grab a long ruler or an umbrella or watever that is long and practice the fingerings ,especially the running notes. and im sure you all have brought your band files home and all the possible-band-festival scores are inside so pls make an effort to look through it so as to remember what we have gone through during band practices and make sure you dun play rubbish on the first day of band practice when school reopens.

holding a long steady tone is something everyone should train themselves and by practising. it is not easy. that is why scales are important. anybody who says scales are unimportant do not understand how it benefits. first, scales are the easiest form of warmups. scales are easier to remember than some songs. by holding the notes steady in the scale for a really long time, it'll train your air support and soon you'll realise that your lung capacity is increasing. xD and also playing a familiar scale you don't have to worry about getting notes correct thus focusing on your breath.

articulation is also important too. when you are looking through your scores make sure you take notice of your accents and staccatos. im sure you've seen it in the challenge scores. rmb that and take note of it when you're playing.

the whole section should also have a balanced tone when playing, thus it is something to work on too. but since borrowing of instruments are not allowed for the moment, remember this until school reopens.

i know that after band comp season you all are feeling ver slacky and stuffs BUT this should not be the case. think of your next goals. for the sec1s and twos your next band competition 2010. think of how you can contribute. and please dun think that you have succeeded when you know how to play. time to take notice of your tone and the balance of the whole section. our section need to brush up a lot on our music especially running notes. the cheowlin and the seniors will not be here when band comp's here in 2010, so its important tat you all start being independent and work hard. show it to us that you all can make it!

MARCHING

im emphasising NOW and im only going to do it for the last time. EVEN THOUGH ITs NOT THE BAND COMP SEASON , I EXPECT YOU ALL TO UPHOLD THE DISCIPLINE AND MARCHING STANDARDS.

first, hentak. STANDARD 90 degrees. even if its just a simple marching from places to places i expect you all to still maintain the standard. if i still have to remind you all on your hentaks again, the whole section is going to be punished.

second, feet v-shaped. the WHOLE section, including the sec ones should know this because you all are falling in and out for every band practice. however, did everybody have the feets v-shaped when in sediah position? i am telling you all this because I'VE constantly seeing the same few people doing it and so i reckon that they SIMPLY do not care about it. so i hope that you all will take note of it.

third, posture in concert position. I THINK THAT I'VE TOLD THE SAME FEW PEOPLE A LOT OF TIMES ON HOW SHOULD THEIR FLUTES BE PLACES WHEN THEY ARE NOT PLAYING ANYTHING. unless you are practising your fingerings otherwise it should not be how the clarinetists hold (no offence) as our instrument is different from theirs. so if i am catching another one doing this next year. you are going to pay $0.50 to jingfang (the treasurer) everytime i catch you doing it. so those who are prone to doing this pls change before your wallets scream for mercy.

i know the info is abit.........supercalifragilisticexpalidocious but i recommend you to read it again before school reopens or the night before band starts to make sure i dun catch any mistakes mentioned above. jingfang's going to be very rich otherwise (:

last of all happy holidays to the lower secondary and sec threes? endure for another one week ba :D sc fours good luck for your o-levels.
